Everyone thinks their 4x4 is the best, most capable, rugged machine—UNTIL one of these pulls up next to you in the bush. This car was made for tackling the ROUGHEST and TOUGHEST terrain out there. In my opinion, it should have been named the BUSH TANK because that’s exactly what it is. There’s only one commercial vehicle I know of that competes with this in terms of toughness, and that’s its sibling, the Cruiser 79. Now that’s a proper tank. This, however, is slightly more refined and comes with many more creature comforts. For starters, the AUTO gearbox is a game-changer.
The engine inside this BEAST of a vehicle is, without question, the most reliable engine on the planet. It’s capable of achieving a million kilometers without skipping a beat—if maintained correctly. This car is an investment; you can own it hassle-free for the rest of your life, no matter how old it gets.
This particular model is the lowest mileage Cruiser in its price range currently in South Africa. To replace this car with a new one will cost you over a million Rand, which brings me to my next point: they haven’t changed the design since this 2012 model, nor the engine. These cars don’t break, so why on earth wouldn’t someone want to save 500K and buy the next best thing to a new one—THIS ONE—and enjoy the exact same experience, just with more money in your pocket? Just some food for thought.

THE PETROL VS DIESEL DEBATE
I often hear people say, “No way, I want a diesel—the petrol is too heavy.” Yes, petrol models are MUCH heavier on fuel, averaging around 15 to 18 liters per 100 km. BUT they come with FAR lower maintenance costs than the diesel models. So, it’s up to you: spend your money on inconvenient and expensive maintenance or on fuel and reliability. They end up costing the same in the long run.
WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THIS CAR WHEN WE BOUGHT IT?
EXTERIOR:
The front bumper had a few nasty stone chips, so we resprayed it.
Two wheel arches needed respraying due to stone chips.
The front grille was resprayed to fix minor blemishes.
INTERIOR:
- Nothing needed to be done—it’s spotless.
MECHANICAL:
- The front brakes needed replacement, which we’ve done.
What a beauty! This vehicle represents what a car with ONLY 73,000 km should look like. I confidently say this is the cleanest Cruiser with the lowest mileage in its price range—probably cleaner than most of the ones out there. This car hasn’t been used to its full potential or for the purpose it was built. Up until now, it has mostly seen tar roads. Please, can the new owner take her into the bush, get her dirty, and show her some real adventures? She deserves it.
